If you're saving MLB 26 stubs for a game-changing bat, he's the obvious target. At second, Ozzie Albies is even more common. His 98 overall NL All-Star card sits in an eye-popping 60.1 percent of top lineups. That switch-hitting profile plays every game, not just against a certain pitcher, and it explains why Ketel Marte and Jorge Polanco have slipped down the pecking order.

The expensive middle infield
Albies didn't become the default second baseman by accident. He arrived with the All-Star content, hit the market at close to 197,000 stubs, and gave players speed, pop, and platoon-proof at-bats in one slot. Shortstop has its own prize card: 99 Troy Tulowitzki, the Live Series Collection reward tied to his August 10, 2009 cycle. He's in 31.8 percent of leaderboard rosters. You'll still run into Bobby Witt Jr. or Roch Cholowsky, but Tulo's glove and balanced hitting make the collection grind feel worth it.

Martinez gets more traction at first base, where his 20.5 percent share narrowly beats Albert Pujols and Lance Berkman. Third base is messier. April Awards Chipper Jones, rated 94 overall, holds 19 percent despite the presence of 99 Miguel Cabrera and Home Run Derby Junior Caminero. Players clearly trust Chipper's swing, even when the rating number says there are bigger names around.

Outfield choices depend on what your lineup lacks
The outfield isn't as settled, which makes it more fun to build around. Juan Soto's 98 overall All-Star card leads left field at 21.6 percent. In center, Ketel Marte's 96 overall card has 17.4 percent, just ahead of Pete Crow-Armstrong and secondary-position Tulowitzki. Right field is almost a coin flip: 2011 Postseason Lance Berkman sits at 8.6 percent, only 0.2 points above the 99 overall NL Collection Pujols.

• Use Albies if you want a switch hitter who fits anywhere near the top of the order.
• Keep Alvarez at DH if defense is the only thing holding his card back.
